News from Evanston

Hi guys,

is it all OK, wherever you are?

I would like to give you some updates from Evanston, since I've some time. But, to tell the truth, I'm quite tired, perhaps due to the jet-lag, but more probably because I've spent all day walking into the Campus among several offices, in order to have an account, an ID... but it is just like in Italy, everyone says to go to the next office, and no-one solves anything... At the end, they told me to wait until Monday... I'll see...

Moreover, I see two apartments, and I just choose to join into the second one, with a young guy who study biology... at the end, also in US I'll be in the same room with another person... but I'm sure I'll be all OK.

I will give you more precise information about Evanston and Northwestern University as soon as I discover, until now I know NU is really big (obviously the offices where they send me time by time were on opposite side of the campus...), while its Statistics' Department is very small, nothing compared with our...

Take care!

  1. Be carefull to americans. Sometimes it's not the burocracy but their incapacity to solve problems that slightly goes beyond their usual tasks... An ID for a student is easy, an ID for a visiting scholar maybe has some subtle issues for them :)

    Enjoy!

  2. University of California:
time to have an ID : 10 min (including standing while they took the picture and waiting for the printer)
    number of offices visited: 1.

    :P

  3. Anyway, I think you did the right thing in sharing the room with an American guy... It's hard to have contacts with Americans, at least here, so maybe you will be lucky and he will introduce you to his friends!
    I'm stuck with Europeans! :P

  4. It depends. It took me few minutes for the ID but almost 2 month for the driving license! Sometimes american burocracy is weird!

  5. I guess when you move from your place to other place you think it is better, and then you discover it is not, this make you to understand and to appreciate how much your country love you.
